About Our Chapter

Alpha Delta Phi Toronto strives to be its member’s “home, away from home.” The University of Toronto is a big institution, and with over 70,000 students, it is understandable to feel overwhelmed upon arrival. Alpha Delta Phi Toronto provides its members with friendship and guidance which can help make this daunting experience positive and more manageable.

Alpha Delta Phi was started as a literary society and we foster this tradition through monthly literary events where Brothers will make a presentation to their fellow Actives as well as Graduate Brothers. Here, we provide an environment where Brothers can share teachings from diverse educational backgrounds.

We are also active in the community, raising money over the years for such charities as the Hospital for Sick Children’s S.C.A.N. program. We have also helped donate toys to children from needy families with the St. Felix Centre.

Alpha Delta Phi Toronto understands that academics are our members’ first priority. Aside from providing an environment where Brothers can learn from Brothers’ shared experiences, we encourage academic excellence through a number of scholarships, including a scholarship for the Brother with the highest GPA. Our International body also encourages literary excellence through international competitions where applicants can earn scholarships.

It is often the case that Active members can call upon the help of Alumni in the Fraternity to find their first job or summer work. Brothers form relationships with fellow members that will help them be successful in their career. Holding positions of leadership in our organization gives Brothers the experience and confidence needed to grow. Our Chapter builds leaders for the future, boasting such Alumni as former Lieutenant Governor, the Hon. John Black Aird, former chief Justice of Ontario, Dana Porter, and President of the Aluminum Company of Canada, C.F.W. Bruce (full list of notable members.)

We provide a safe and pressure-free environment for our members. We do not engage in hazing or physical abuse of any kind and any such acts are not tolerated. We do not allow or encourage underage drinking or drug use. In fact, many of our members do not drink alcohol and are not pressured to do so at all. Any acts that are of questionable morality are investigated thoroughly and addressed with the utmost gravity.

We are proud to be a positive experience in the tradition to manhood for generations of young men. We offer the prospect of forming relationships with great people, at a place to call home, with a common purpose.
